A Sabbatical Stay, Handled Before You Land

Most sabbatical stays follow the academic calendar, and so do our leases: a single semester, a full academic year, or a summer research appointment, each with a defined start and end date. Tell us your appointment dates and what you need — bedrooms, workspace, parking — and we respond with available apartments and a lease matched to your term.

Everything can be arranged before you arrive, from anywhere in the world. The lease and payment are handled remotely — we host international scholars regularly, accept payment in any currency, and do not require a U.S. bank account. You land with your suitcases and walk into a furnished home: utilities on, internet live, linens made, kitchen equipped. There is nothing to buy when you arrive and nothing to sell or cancel when you leave.

New Haven suits a research year. The city is compact and walkable, the Yale campus and libraries are minutes away, and Metro-North runs from Union Station to New York for archives, collaborators, and weekends in the city. Bringing your family? Our apartments range from one to four bedrooms, with real space to live and work. And if your department is arranging the stay, we invoice institutions directly.

Guest Experiences

A Home, Not a Hotel Room

We arrived to a spotlessly clean, roomy, and inviting apartment. … We have rented three times from Shelley, and every property has been well cared for and as advertised.

Kathy

Three-time guest

It was so relaxing to come back to this bright clean, uncluttered, but cozy home at the end of the day. It is a great location -- very walkable, with two beautiful parks in walking distance: East Rock Park and Edgerton Park, and a 5 minute walk to the Yale shuttle, which takes you into downtown and the Yale campus.

Susie

Returning guest

It is beautiful, the beds are super comfy, and the kitchen and living room area a dream. … Their place is in a quiet neighborhood and close to great restaurants, cafes, and everything Yale.

Sabbatical Housing Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on academic-term leases, arriving from abroad, and what is included.

Do lease terms follow the academic calendar?

Yes. A single semester, a full academic year, or a summer research appointment — every lease has a defined start and end date matched to your appointment, so there is no paying for months you are not here.

Can I arrange everything before I arrive in the U.S.?

Yes. The lease and payment are handled remotely from anywhere in the world — you land with your suitcases and walk into a furnished apartment with the utilities on and the internet live.

What is included in the apartment?

Quality furniture, a fully equipped kitchen, linens and towels, all utilities, high-speed internet, in-unit laundry, off-street parking, and space to work. There are no accounts to open when you arrive and nothing to cancel when you leave.

Is there a deposit, and how does payment work?

A security deposit holds the apartment for your dates. Stays of two months or less are paid in full by the start of the stay; longer stays are billed in prorated monthly installments, with the first payment due by the first day of your stay.

I am coming from outside the U.S. — how does payment work?

Easily — we work with international travelers all the time. We accept payment in any currency, and you do not need a U.S. bank account. The deposit and payment schedule are the same as for any stay.

Is there room for my family?

Yes. Our apartments range from one to four bedrooms, so a scholar arriving with a partner and children can have real space to live, work, and settle in for the year.

How close are the apartments to Yale?

Our apartments are located across New Haven with easy access to the Yale campus and libraries. The city is compact — most commutes are minutes, and downtown is genuinely walkable.

What if my appointment is extended?

Tell us as early as you can. Because every lease has a defined end date, an extension means arranging a new term — usually smooth when the apartment’s calendar allows.

Do you have unfurnished options?

Yes. Sabbatical stays are typically furnished, but if your appointment runs longer and you are bringing your own things, our unfurnished apartments have the same premium finishes and amenities.

Can my university or department arrange the stay?

Yes. We work with institutional bookers and can invoice a university or department directly — our corporate housing page covers how direct invoicing works.

Where are the apartments located?

Across New Haven, with easy access to campus, downtown, and Union Station. We share specific locations and available units with your proposal.
