The Residency Timeline
From Match Day to Move-In
Most incoming residents match in mid-March and report in late June. The weeks in between are when housing gets decided — and the best selection goes to those who reach out soon after they match. Tell us your program start date, and we will line up apartments and a defined-term lease that begins when you need it.
Residencies run three to seven years, and our leases are built to go the distance. Start furnished for intern year — arrive with suitcases and everything is set — or take an unfurnished apartment and make it your own. Terms run a year at a time or multi-year, always with defined start and end dates, so there is no forced move mid-program.
The commute math matters after a 24-hour call: our apartments are minutes by car from both Yale New Haven Hospital campuses, with off-street parking included. And when you are finally off shift, New Haven is a genuinely good place to live — compact, walkable, and full of better food than a resident's schedule deserves.
Matching here with a partner, or splitting with a co-resident? Our two- to four-bedroom units make sharing simple. And if your program or department is arranging the stay, we invoice institutions directly. Rotating clinicians can find assignment-ready options on our travel nurse housing page.
Guest Experiences
A Home, Not a Hotel Room
This place is as pictured if not better! It is clean, quiet, and comfortable. My cousins had a long stay and had zero issues.
Their place is beautifully renovated, designed, and maintained. They have prepared everything that you may possibly need for short and long term stays.
My husband and I stayed at Shelley and Colin's place with our 8 month old son for about two weeks. First off, it is stunning. … It was more than enough space for us and peaceful. More than enough parking for guests in the front. Really loved the gym downstairs especially with balancing working and being a mom.
Resident & Fellow Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers on the Match Day timeline, program-length leases, and what is included.
When should I start looking after Match Day?
Soon after you match. Most incoming residents match in mid-March and report in late June, and the best selection goes to those who reach out in March through May. Tell us your program start date and we will line up options.
Can the lease last my whole residency?
Yes. Every lease has a defined start and end date, and the length is up to you — a shorter first term while you get your bearings, a year at a time, or multi-year. Many residents renew in place for the length of their program, so there is no forced mid-program move.
Should I choose furnished or unfurnished?
Both work well for residency. Many interns start furnished — arrive with suitcases, everything is set — while residents settling in for a multi-year program often choose unfurnished and make it their own. Same premium finishes either way.
How close are the apartments to Yale New Haven Hospital?
Minutes by car from both YNHH campuses, with off-street parking included. After a 24-hour call, the commute home is short and the parking spot is guaranteed.
Is there a deposit, and how does payment work?
A security deposit holds the apartment for your dates. Stays of two months or less are paid in full by the start of the stay; longer stays are billed in prorated monthly installments, with the first payment due by the first day of your stay.
Can I share an apartment with a co-resident?
Yes. Our two- to four-bedroom units work well for co-residents and for couples who matched together — separate bedrooms, shared common space, one simple lease.
What is included in the apartment?
Quality furniture (in furnished units), a fully equipped kitchen, linens and towels, all utilities, high-speed internet, in-unit laundry, and off-street parking. One payment covers everything.
I am an international medical graduate — can I arrange housing from abroad?
Yes. The lease and payment are handled remotely from anywhere in the world — we accept payment in any currency and do not require a U.S. bank account. Your apartment is ready when you land.
Do you work with fellows and attendings too?
Yes — residents, fellows, attendings, and visiting clinicians. If your program or department is arranging the stay, we can invoice the institution directly; see our corporate housing page.
Where are the apartments located?
Across New Haven, with easy access to Yale New Haven Hospital, downtown, and the I-95 and I-91 corridors. We share specific locations and available units with your proposal.
